Wisdom
teeth.

Removed when they are causing trouble. Left alone when they are not.

In one paragraph

What it is.

Wisdom teeth arrive in the late teens or twenties, often with nowhere to go. When they come in partly, they trap food and bacteria, get infected, and push on the tooth in front.

Not every wisdom tooth needs removing. Fully erupted ones you can clean properly are fine where they are, and we will not take out a tooth that is behaving itself.

Detail

The specifics.

When to remove

Repeated infection, decay you cannot clean, damage to the tooth in front, or a cyst on the X-ray.

When not to

Fully through, cleanable and symptom-free. Leave it.

Assessment

An X-ray, and a scan where the roots sit close to the nerve.

Sedation

Available, including IV. Many people choose it for this.

Recovery

Usually a few days of swelling. Plan a quiet weekend.

Referral

Deeply impacted cases sometimes belong with an oral surgeon, and we will say so.

Money

What it costs.

You get an itemised written estimate before anything starts. We bill your insurance directly, so you usually pay only your own portion on the day, and the Canadian Dental Care Plan is accepted. In-house financing is available through PaySpyre, so treatment can be paid for over time.

Questions.

Do wisdom teeth always need to come out?

No. If they are fully through, cleanable and causing no problems, the evidence does not support removing them.

How long is the recovery?

Most people are comfortable within three to five days. Swelling peaks around day two.

Can I be sedated?

Yes. Oral and IV sedation are both available, with a certified dental anesthesiologist in the building.

Will I need time off work?

Plan on a day or two, and more if all four are done at once.
