Yaletown Dentistry / Services / Extractions
When a tooth cannot be saved. We will tell you honestly when it can be, too.
Sometimes a tooth is too broken, too decayed or too loose to keep. Taking it out is straightforward, and modern technique is closer to firm pressure than to force.
The more important conversation is what happens next. A gap changes how the neighbouring teeth sit and how you chew, so we discuss replacement before the extraction, not afterwards.
An X-ray, a look at the roots, and a plan for the gap.
Local anaesthetic. Pressure rather than pain. Sedation available.
Written aftercare, and a number to call if anything worries you.
Implant, bridge or leaving it — costs for each, before you decide.
Where an implant is likely later, we can preserve the socket at the time of extraction.
See the wisdom teeth page.
You get an itemised written estimate before anything starts. We bill your insurance directly, so you usually pay only your own portion on the day, and the Canadian Dental Care Plan is accepted. In-house financing is available through PaySpyre, so treatment can be paid for over time.
Local anaesthetic is used. Tell the team if you feel pain during treatment. Your dentist will give you an individual pain-management and aftercare plan.
The gum surface closes over in one to two weeks; the bone underneath continues filling in for several months.
Not always, particularly at the back of the mouth. But gaps let neighbouring teeth drift, so it is a decision to make deliberately rather than by default.
When the blood clot is lost too early, leaving bone exposed. It is painful and treatable — call us rather than waiting it out.
