Nightguards.

For grinding and clenching at night. A custom appliance can be discussed after assessing your teeth and symptoms.

In one paragraph

What it is.

A nightguard is a custom appliance worn while you sleep, so your teeth wear the guard instead of each other. If you wake with a tight jaw or your teeth are visibly flattening, this is the first thing to try.

It is scanned and made to fit your teeth. Your dentist checks the fit and explains how to use and care for it.

Detail

The specifics.

Who needs one

Grinders, clenchers, and anyone with unexplained morning jaw ache.

Custom fit

Made from a digital scan of your own teeth.

Protects

Your enamel, and any crowns, veneers or implants you have paid for.

Comfort

Thin and fitted, so it is actually worn.

Lifespan

A few years, depending on how hard you grind.

Not a sports guard

Different appliance, different job. See sports guards.

Money

What it costs.

You get an itemised written estimate before anything starts. We bill your insurance directly, so you usually pay only your own portion on the day, and the Canadian Dental Care Plan is accepted. In-house financing is available through PaySpyre, so treatment can be paid for over time.

Questions.

How do I know if I grind my teeth?

Common signs are waking with a tight or aching jaw, headaches in the morning, teeth that look flattened at the edges, or a partner who hears it.

Is a custom nightguard worth it over a drugstore one?

A custom guard is fitted to your teeth. Your dentist can compare options and costs for your needs.

Will it stop the grinding?

It does not necessarily stop grinding. It can help protect teeth; jaw pain needs its own assessment.

How long does a nightguard last?

Typically a few years. Heavy grinders go through them faster, which is itself useful information.
