Yaletown Dentistry / Services / Botox
Mostly for clenching and jaw tension. Your bite gets looked at in the same appointment, as part of an assessment of your teeth, muscles and jaw joints.
Botox relaxes the muscle it is placed into. In a dental practice the common use is the masseter — the big muscle at the angle of the jaw — for people who clench or grind hard enough to get headaches, worn teeth or a sore jaw.
Because we are a dental practice, we look at the bite at the same time. An assessment helps identify appropriate options, which may include a nightguard or other conservative care.

Assessed in the same appointment, at no extra charge.
Effects build over about two weeks and wear off over several months.

Ask at the consultation; it is a separate conversation from the therapeutic side.
You get an itemised written estimate before anything starts. We bill your insurance directly, so you usually pay only your own portion on the day, and the Canadian Dental Care Plan is accepted. In-house financing is available through PaySpyre, so treatment can be paid for over time.
A dentist can assess your teeth, jaw muscles and joints. Clenching and jaw pain can have several causes; Botox is one option to discuss, including its limits, risks and alternatives.
Effects are temporary and vary. Your dentist will explain what is known about the proposed use and how follow-up is planned.
Changes in muscle activity can affect appearance. Discuss possible effects, risks and alternatives with the treating dentist beforehand.
No. A guard and an injection have different purposes. Your dentist will discuss whether either is appropriate after assessment.
