Yaletown Dentistry / Services / Cosmetic bonding
Composite shaped directly onto the tooth. Usually completed in one visit, with tooth preparation discussed beforehand.
Bonding adds tooth-coloured composite directly to a tooth to close a small gap, rebuild a chipped corner or reshape an uneven edge. It is sculpted and polished in the chair in a single appointment.
Bonding may require less tooth preparation than a veneer. It can stain or chip, and repairs or replacement may be needed. Ask how much preparation your own teeth would require.
Placed, shaped and polished in the same appointment.
Your dentist explains any reshaping needed before treatment.
Repairs or replacement may be needed over time.
Chipped edges, small gaps, slightly uneven teeth.
Whole-smile colour changes, or heavy bites that will chip it.
Composite will not lighten later, so whitening comes before bonding.
You get an itemised written estimate before anything starts. We bill your insurance directly, so you usually pay only your own portion on the day, and the Canadian Dental Care Plan is accepted. In-house financing is available through PaySpyre, so treatment can be paid for over time.
Commonly five to eight years, depending on where it is and how you use your teeth. It can be repaired rather than replaced.
Composite picks up stain over years more than porcelain does, particularly with coffee, tea and smoking. Polishing helps.
Costs and tooth preparation differ. Your written estimate compares the options appropriate for your teeth.
Small gaps, yes, in one appointment. Larger ones usually look better closed by moving the teeth.
